Couple Intensives

What are Couples Intensives?

Couples Intensives are immersive, multiple hour sessions designed to deeply explore and address the complexities of your relationship. Different from traditional weekly therapy, these marathon couples therapy sessions provide a concentrated and focused setting for profound healing and understanding. In our intensive sessions, we delve into the core issues affecting your relationship, offering the opportunity for significant breakthroughs in a shorter time frame.

Benefits of Intensive Couples Therapy

Our intensive sessions offer numerous benefits over traditional couples counseling. By dedicating extended time to your relationship, you and your partner can:

  • Dive deeper into underlying issues without the constraint of a typical one-hour session.
  • Experience accelerated progress and deeper insights.
  • Find a safe space to express and explore emotions intensively and comprehensively.
  • Learn and practice communication skills so when it gets tough you have tools.

How much do intensives cost?

Pre screening is required. Multiple intensive sessions may be done over a period of time depending on you level of need. Weekly therapy may be recommended to practice and maintain affective communication skills learned in intensives.

How My Couples Intensives Stand Out

As a therapist specializing in attachment theory, I uniquely blend the top 3 theories in couples research and method: Gottman Method, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Imago therapy. This tailored approach ensures that my intensives cater specifically to the dynamics of your relationship, fostering a deeper connection and understanding between partners. Whether you're seeking marriage therapy near me or online couples counseling, our intensive sessions are designed to meet your unique needs.

My Therapeutic Approach: Integrating Gottman, EFT, and Imago Therapies

Gottman Method:

The Gottman Method, developed by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, is a research-based approach to couples therapy. It is the largest body of couples research that exists today. This method emphasizes the Sound Relationship House Theory, which includes key elements such as building love maps, sharing fondness and admiration, and turning towards instead of away. The Gottman Method is known for its practical, skills-based strategies that help couples strengthen their relationships. It focuses on managing conflict, fostering a deeper sense of understanding, and creating shared meaning within the relationship.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT):

Focusing on emotional bonding and attachment, helping you and your partner to build a secure, lasting bond. Emotionally Focused Therapy, formulated by Dr. Sue Johnson, is a structured approach to couples therapy based on the principles of attachment theory. EFT helps couples understand and restructure their emotional responses, creating stronger and more secure bonds. The therapy is divided into three stages: de-escalation of negative cycles, changing interaction patterns, and consolidation and integration. EFT is particularly effective in helping couples move from distress to recovery by promoting emotional accessibility and responsiveness.

Imago Therapy:

Transforming conflicts into opportunities for growth and deeper connection. Imago Therapy, created by Dr. Harville Hendrix and Dr. Helen LaKelly Hunt, is a unique approach to couples counseling that focuses on transforming conflict into growth and healing. This method is based on the concept that we subconsciously choose partners who reflect the positive and negative traits of our caregivers so that we can heal childhood wounds. Imago Therapy involves structured dialogues that encourage understanding and empathy. Through this process, couples learn to communicate effectively, understand each other's needs, and heal old wounds, leading to a more fulfilling relationship. This method is beneficial for those who have experienced any degree of childhood neglect or abuse.

By integrating these diverse and effective methods, our Couples Intensives provide a comprehensive, tailored approach to couples therapy, addressing the unique needs of each relationship with depth and care.
